I’ve been reading up on Aries, and it seems to me that it is all about “the self”; knowing the self, trusting the self, being the self, while at the same time being aware of everyone and everything around you and how you are affecting them.
This makes perfect sense to me, as this is the time of fresh beginnings in the northern hemisphere. We start anew. and in order to do that we need to know who we are at the core, be comfortable with that, and allow it. This is what we have hopefully been working on over the fall and winter.
A new plant that is beginning to push up through the ground in spring knows who it is and what it will become. It is comfortable being a tulip, or a blade of grass. It knows what it has to do in order to grow and does it fearlessly, boldly, showing us how it is done! I don’t think a blade of grass is consumed with fear about pushing through the earth. It just does it. We could take some great lessons from everything that grows around us.
Initiating movement, taking action, and being innovative are all part of Aries. We see that in Nature all the time. Trees and plants grow in some very interesting ways in order to get into the path of the sun. They know that is where they need to be in order to grow. Hopefully, in our time of rest and contemplation over the winter season, we have seen where we need to go and what we need to do to get there. Where is the sun that is attracting us and pulling us to grow? How do we need to move to enjoy its’ light more?
Being honest and authentic is also part of Aries. A blade of grass is a blade of grass, no matter what. It puts on no airs nor does it try to be what it is not. But we, as humans, tend to pretend, put on masks to hide who we really are, until we forget what’s underneath the mask. It’s very difficult to be honest and authentic then. Setting out in new directions, taking risks, is so much easier and fulfilling if we have done the “work”, discovering who we really are. The Alchemists called this “play”. It is possible to have fun during the discovery!
The blade of grass does not care whether others think it is a great blade of grass; it doesn’t care whether all the other blades of grass like it or approve of it, it just grows and develops the best that it can, knowing that that in itself is perfection.
If you are setting intent for this New Moon, here are some examples:
I am joyfully and courageously exploring new options in the area of …..
I am initiating new and innovative processes around my work search.
As of now, I am relying on myself in the matter of_____ for the highest and best good of all concerned.
I will take a leadership role in my life as of now.
I am bringing vitality and courage into my life.
I am being honest with myself in all decisions that I make. Is this what I really want and need? Is it for the highest and best good of all concerned?
On March 30, Mercury goes retrograde. Now, don’t go hide under a rock. Remember we’re bringing in courage! This event gives us the opportunity to look back over what we have done, decisions we have make in the last 4 months or so, and see if we need to tweek them. Also, just to be on the safe side, back up your computers, and think twice before you speak, as Mercury rules communication.
According to Dale Osadchuk (daleosadchuk@rogers.com – if you want to subscribe to her newsletter), it means “put re in front of everything you do”. She also says, “Because Mercury is retrograde, and it is the Soul Centred ruler of this lunation the new beginnings will be delayed until May”. This is a great opportunity to re-look at your intent for the year.
So be patient, but still practice courage, innovative thinking, taking charge of situations, and being yourself, with no masks. It’s never too early to start!
